Beware the Ides of March: the Last Knight

Dead Zebra, Inc has been around for over 13 years! Throughout that time we’ve used a variety of related graphic elements for branding such as stripes, skulls and even a full-on dead zebra. We’re long overdue to put all of these elements together into one of the quality collectibles that we are known for! We’re proud to announce The Last Knight! Part collectible, part sculpture, part over-sized chess piece.. part zebra, part dead!

The Last Knight is a skull-headed zebra in the format of an 8″ tall knight chess piece. Figure features an articulated jaw and ears, and high quality paint work. Each Last Knight box has an individually hand numbered band with elegant black and silver stamp artwork and a hidden magnetic clasp.

Available at the Dead Zebra Shop and select toy and specialty retailers starting March 15th, 2014 for around $65 US.

The Dead Zebra Edition in our traditional color scheme is an edition of 500pcs. Designed by Andrew Bell, produced by Dyzplastic, digital sculpting by Scott Wetterschneider!

Year of the Horse!

Happy upcoming Lunar New Year! On the Chinese Zodiac this year is the year of the Horse. As with past years, our Asian partners have a Special Edition Android to celebrate! This Android features a stylized horse mask design and traditional Chinese costume.

My customized Artist Proof editions of the AB x Playge Misfortune Cat mini will be going on sale in the Dead Zebra shop this Thursday at 11AM EST. Each cat features a hand painted blue tongue, nose and sword end, with 3 new metallic blue glass eyes, and the skull has a gold tooth to boot. Signed and numbered on the underside, and includes a matching 7″ signed and numbered print on velvet finish cotton rag paper.

Ho Ho Holiday Androids & Playge Collaboration!

First up is our new holiday Android mini! A little delayed, but luckily they should be here in time to be under.. or on the tree for our U.S. collectors! I’m afraid they’ll be a bit too late for our international friends this time around. The amazing designs of Series 04 are extra awesome, but unfortunately they took us a little longer than usual to get out to the world resulting in the Holiday Android production being pushed back a few weeks. Never too soon to get a start on decorating for next year, right?

Ornamental Android comes in both blue and red matte metallic finish with silver glitter, an ornament topper insert, and a small metal hook. They will be sold individually for $10 each with a limit of 2 pieces (one red + one blue or two of one color, your choice!) BUT a limited quantity will be available in a special 10-piece “Tree Pack” that contains 5 red and 5 blue ornaments for $90!

For those of you who are less glitter and more gore.. I’m happy to announce that the 9″ custom Misfortune Cat that I created a few years back has been turned into a production piece! Meticulously and magically miniaturized and translated by Playge into in 4″ of vinyl and abs, produced in an edition of 500pcs, includes cat and skull accessory. Available now at many toy and specialty retailers for around $55, a small set of signed and numbered proofs will be available in the Dead Zebra shop early next year.

We’re mixing up the preview today and tomorrow with one Android mini and one new Android Foundry product… today’s feature is frustration! Introducing “Stress Tech” by artist Sergio Mancini. John Coffee is the sole technical support officer at StressTech, Inc. Needless to say, his job has him a bit on edge. Turn it off and on again before you even think about calling him, 1/16 ratio.

Meet the Androids: Series 04 Preview (pt1)

…could it be? Is it finally happening? Yes! The fourth installment of our artist and designer series of Android mini collectibles is finally arriving soon! This year we’re happy to welcome artists Kong Andri, Sergio Mancini, Fakir and Shawnimals to the roster. They are joined by returning artists Andrew Bell, kaNO, Kronk and Scott Tolleson!

Within the next few weeks, Series 04 will start arriving in toy, comic, specialty and online retailers across the world. We’ll be previewing some of the new designs here on a regular basis, so check back!

Designer Con 2013 – Items update!

Here’s a quick rundown of some goodies I’ll have at Designer Con this weekend in Pasadena, CA at booth #703!

First up is a brand new edition of the locally made sofubi-style Dealmaker! The “blueblood” edition features a light blue vinyl base with magenta and black paints. Comes header card / bagged for $35/pc.

UPDATE 11/8:
Unfortunately these guys were too awesome for the US Customs office to handle in a timely manner and it looks like they won’t be making it to the convention center in time for the show. My apologies! Still plenty of goodies to be had, so come on by anyway and be bummed with me.

Ohh and what’s this? Something BIG? Oh yes.. While we wait for Android Series 04 to chug across the ocean, I’ll be air dropping a handful of these mega monsters on to the west coast in a special preview release.

Standing at almost 10″ tall, these vinyl colossi feature posable ball joint arms and movable,and removable heads! A special internal dual wall liner is large enough to hold a can of tasty beverage, and keep it cool too! Available for $70.

..and I didn’t forget about the DIYers out there! We’ll also have a handful of these giant blanks ready for some amazing (huge) customs! Available for $65.

These will be available for general sale via the Dead Zebra Shop and other Android figure retailers towards the end of the year.

Designer Con 2013!

Hello everyone! I’m happy to announce that I’ll be attending Designer Con 2013, this weekend November 9th and 10th in Pasadena, CA. It has been a bit of a last-minute decision as I worked out some scheduling details, but mister Gary Ham has graciously agreed to share his space with me! We’ll be at booth #703.

In addition to (hopefully) a new item or two, I’ll be reaching into the archives..

China National Day Android special release!

中国紅起来! A special Android mini collectible was put together for some of our partners in the China and Hong Kong region to celebrate the holiday this year! The figure features a simple but strong design featuring the national flag colors and iconography along with a package that celebrates the advances in their space programs.

While this is primarily a release for the Chinese and Hong Kong region, we secured a few figures for this side of the world. They will be available in the Dead Zebra Inc shop starting October 2nd at 11pm EDT.

Rare European Blue Bloods emerge!

Ahh, the exotic beauty of the Rare European Blue Blood Worms!

These rare worms are found primarily in the dark and damp wine cellars of southern France where they spend most of their days seeking out puddles of spilled Cabernet Sauvignon to feast on.

Emerging next week at the 2013 International Comic-Con in San Diego.. and MPH! Yes that’s right, we’re teaming up with our friends at Myplasticheart to make some cans available online at the same time! No more sitting it out or paying flipper prices just because you couldn’t make it to SDCC!

Google I/O 2013 Wrapup

A few pics from my recent trip to Google HQ for my Talks @ Google artist talk and the 2013 I/O Developers conference! I had a great time, got to meet some good people and ran into some friends. Thanks to Tom and Thiru for arranging the talk logistics, to Dan for the introduction and to Hugo and the entire Android team for making the I/O Tester special edition mini collectible a reality!

Below is an edited (secret Google bits removed, sorry!) version of my talk. I cover my early inspirations and the development of my art over the years with various examples, followed by a bit of info about Androids and a short Q&A! Runs about 45 minutes.
